KS1

Learning in Key Stage One is more formal than when we first came to school. Our class teacher still gives us opportunities to use our continuous provision but the vast majority of our learning is done together in the classroom.

A big focus is learning to read. We know reading helps us build our confidence and unlock other areas of the curriculum as we move through the primary phase. We focus particularly on decoding words and reading fluency first. Once we are fluent, we begin to focus on comprehension skills. We need lots of practice to help us do this and so we ask that an adult at home hears us read every single day for 10 minutes. If there are any words you find tricky, you can ask your adult to make a note of them in your Reading Record so that the adults in school can help you further. In school, we read with an adult 3 times a week and our reading books are changed regularly.
